Gargling with salt water has been a household remedy across Europe for generations. The British NHS also recommends it for a sore throat, along with drinking plenty of water, eating cool or soft foods and resting. A sore throat usually gets better by itself within a week.

Ingredients

  • Half a teaspoon of salt
  • A glass of warm water

Step by step

  1. Dissolve the salt in the warm water.
  2. Take a mouthful, tilt your head back a little and gargle for half a minute.
  3. Spit the water out and do not swallow it.
  4. Repeat a few times a day.

Tips

  • Salt dissolves faster in warm water than in cold.
