Coffea arabica
The beans contain caffeine, which increases alertness. Ground coffee is used in scrubs to exfoliate the skin; that caffeine reduces cellulite has not been shown.

Use in traditions
Coffee comes from the mountain forests of Ethiopia, where the coffee ceremony (buna) is a sign of hospitality: the beans are roasted, ground and brewed in a jebena on the spot, and three rounds are drunk. Via Yemen the drink spread in the 15th century among Sufis, who used it to stay awake during night prayers. In Ethiopian folk medicine coffee leaves are drunk as tea.
